At the SPAAL Members Meeting held on the 13 December 2011, The Hon Michael Gallacher, MLC, Minister for Police & Emergency Services announced a number of proposed changes to the regulation of the NSW Security Industry.
Full details will provided once the draft legislation is available for review in 2012. However the following changes have been tabled:
- Provisional licensing scheme to be abolished
- New licence classes and fees
- Conditional Class 1 licence
- Subcontracting disclosure - Master licence holders will be required to declare subcontractors
- New licence renewal process - licence holders will able to be renew a licence, rather than having to reapply
- Online service permit - a Master licence holder can apply to add extra employees for special events
- Public reporting on SLED operations to all stakeholders
- Manpower and Technical sectors compliance to be treated equally by SLED
- Compliance inspections undertaken by SLED
- Greater Police involvement in SLED operations
- Removal of mandatory membership for Master Licence holders
